Visit Salisbury Cathedral and Magna Carta
When it comes to historic attractions in the United Kingdom, Salisbury Cathedral just cannot be missed. Apart from breathtaking surroundings, stunning architecture, and Britain’s tallest spire (404 m), it also has an original copy of the Magna Carta. There are a total of four surviving copies, with two in the British Museum, one in Lincoln Cathedral, and one in this cathedral, which is the one copy which is best preserved.
Winchester Cathedral and King Arthurs Round Table
The highlight of the tour is a visit to the Cathedral, where you can explore 1000 years of English history. See the beautifully illuminated Winchester Bible, 12th-century wall paintings, medieval carvings and the awe and wonder of this magnificent building and crypt with their fine Early English and Perpendicular Gothic architecture. Enjoy a visit to The Great Hall – famed as the finest surviving aisled hall of the 13th century – and hear about King Arthur’s Round Table
Overnight Stay at a 5 Star Stately Country House
A stately country house hotel set in 63 acres of grounds just outside Winchester. Enjoy opulent period rooms, tipples looking out over the longest avenue of limes in the United Kingdom, or a top-notch six-course tasting menu in the wood-panelled dining room.
Lainston House is everything you would expect from a 17th-century country house, with an imposing façade, lofty reception rooms with roaring fires, wood panelling (the magnificent Cedar Bar was carved entirely from a cedar tree that fell in the grounds) and lavish interiors. A line of wellington boots greets you in reception, reminding you that the 63 acres of landscaped grounds are very much part of the experience. Take a romp and discover the remains of a 13th-century chapel, a sundial and a walled Victorian kitchen garden.
Return to London the next day or explore the area further. This is a customised tour and can be taioured to your individual needs.
Huge thank you for assigning us Nick as our guide. He was absolutely wonderful! My parents and I thorough enjoyed the tour and were so appreciative of all the thoughtful details he was able to add from his extensive experience at the site. Thank you also for your help throughout the booking process! I really appreciate your help and patience with all my questions. Thank you for making our Stonehenge experience so amazing! I've left a review on Facebook but ifthere is somewhere it would be more helpful for me to leave a review please dolet me know. Thank you,
Just wanted you to know that we had a super time! It was fast and furious and we fell asleep on the way home! There was absolutely no-one else at Stonehenge when we walked around, so that was just super. Oliver said he'd never been able to walk alone around the entire monument before, so that was a first for him. He was very knowledgeable, but not boring, so that makes all the information much more interesting and easier to listen to. After this Lockdown and Christmas is over, I'll be back in touch in the new year. This tour made getting from place to place very easy, and there are so many places we have not yet had a chance to visit. Thanks for organising, good luck during this, (hopefully final) lockdown and we'll be in touch soon. Nicola
