Bath and The Roman Baths
Admire the heritage of the City of Bath boasting spectacular Georgian architecture, and more listed buildings than London. Here you can visit the ancient Roman Baths, built over 2,000 years ago. The Romans harnessed the hot local springs and were able to engineer a magnificent complex of plunge pools, steam rooms and saunas.
Overnight Stay at the 5 Star Manor House Hotel in the scenic Cotswolds
Hidden by a ring of wooded hills, The Manor House is a magical find, sat beside a tumbling weir on the edge of adorable Castle Combe in the Cotswolds. Guests can either stay in the honey-stone mansion, with its mullioned windows and stained-glass crests, or in a row of picturesque cottages within the grounds.
The road into lower Castle Combe feels like descending into a fairytale. The hotel’s sweeping drive is found opposite the old stone bridge at the start of the village, beyond which, quaint weavers’ cottages creep up the hill. With a medieval market cross in its centre, the village was used as a backdrop for Spielberg’s War Horse.
The foundations of the house are 14th-century, though the building has been renovated since. The front porch opens onto an oak-panelled lounge with a splendid fireplace covered in dark wood bearing the crests of local families. The ground floor lounges all enjoy big windows that look onto the front lawn. Brighter still is the sunshine-yellow drawing room, which is where afternoon tea is served. Before becoming a hotel, the house was apparently where Margaret Thatcher wrote her memoirs (in what is now the bar).
Return to London the next day
Nick made our guided tour of Stonehenge the highlight of our trip to England. He was not only knowledgeable about all of the sites we visited, but just as excited to be there as we were! He helped us take some amazing photos of our family during our inner-access and his shots were the best ones of ourtrip (thanks, Nick!). We quickly felt as if we had known him for years, yet he made sure to give us time to take in Stonehenge, Avebury Circle, and LacockVillage as a family. Our three children were smitten by Nick's excitement and his explanations of the mystical qualities of the region. George was excellent with communicating details, payments, etc. We truly felt like we were given something special and we'd definitely use this company for another tour in the future.
